Glenwoodie Family Golf Lessons

July is Family Golf Month and at Glendwoodie, First Tee families are getting into the swing of things by participating in Glenwoodie’s Get Golf Ready program, a six-week series of golf lessons aimed to introduce the game and basic swing fundamentals. Throughout the summer while participants are receiving their lessons through The First Tee, parents work with Glenwoodie’s instructional staff on the backside of the driving range.

Greater Chicago represented at The First Tee Level I Coach Training

Caring adults are at the heart of The First Tee Coach Program. Local Youth Enjoy Harborside Skills Challenge & Open House

Despite the chilly weather, over 100 local youth came out to Harborside Int’l Golf Center to learn more about The First Tee and test their golf and life skills knowledge. Congratulations to the Union League Boys & Girls Club for winning the skills challenge competition that featured fellow community partners that included Poe Elementary and Claremont Academy.

June 18, 2014 proved to be a wonderful night for golf fans and supporters of The First Tee of Greater Chicago, as the annual fundraiser grabbed 500 attendees and took in over $300,000.

North Chicago Community Partners Sponsors The First Tee D.R.I.V.E. Program at Two Elementary Schools

Early in 2014, North Chicago Community Partners (NCCP) and The First Tee of Greater Chicago formed a partnership to bring after school and summer Life Skills programs to elementary schools in North Chicago. NCCP then helped facilitate funding for the D.R.I.V.E. program through the D & M Grumhaus Fund and the Kimberly and Richard Ross Foundation. A. J. Katzenmaier and Forrestal Elementary, the first schools to participate, began D.R.I.V.E. for fourth and fifth graders in late April.

Our friends at The Ted Rhodes Foundation, Inc. are hosting a Junior Golf Skills Challenge at Lost Marsh 9 Hole Course in Hammond, Indiana on June 28, 2014. The entry free is $20 and open to youth age 5-17.

Union League Boys & Girls Clubs Intra-Club Competition

On Thursday, June 12th youth from the Union League Boys & Girls Clubs’ Club One and Barreto Clubs competed in a golf and life skills challenge at the Union League Club of Chicago. The intra-club competition was the concluding event for both clubs’ eight week The First Tee DRIVE program made possible by funding from an anonymous donor and the Shade Family Foundation.

Congratulations to Vincent Casambre, Eagle-level participant at Chicago Park District LSE program, for being selected to attend the Life Skills & Leadership Academy in San Diego this July. Vincent is 15 years old and maintains a 3.75/4.0 gpa at Whitney Young H.S.

The PGA TOUR Superstore 5% Challenge is designed to increase our 2013 Life Skill Experience by 5% or more. If we do this, our chapter will minimally receive an ADDITIONAL $5,000.
