Annual Healthy Habits Summit a Huge Success

Harborside International Golf Center proved to be the perfect backdrop for The First Tee of Greater Chicago’s annual Healthy Habits Summit on Saturday, September 6th. Over sixty (60) Par, Birdie, Eagle and Ace-level participants had the opportunity to take part in team-building and problem-solving activities, as well as a golf skills challenge and healthy habits trivia. The camp focused on all nine healthy habits throughout the day (Energy, Play, Safety, Vision, Mind, Family, Friends, School, and Community).

Our friends at the Illinois PGA Foundation have a vocational development program for Illinois high school and college students that promotes learning through hands-on work experience in the golf industry called GolfWorks Illinois.

Lake County Boys & Girls Club Summer Skills Challenge

This past July, youth from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Waukegan, Oakdale and Genesee sites and the Lions Math and Science Academy competed in a golf and life skills challenge at Bonnie Brook Golf Course, a facility operated by the Waukegan Park District.

Local Youth Enjoy Harborside Skills Challenge & Open House

Despite the chilly weather, over 100 local youth came out to Harborside Int’l Golf Center to learn more about The First Tee and test their golf and life skills knowledge. Congratulations to the Union League Boys & Girls Club for winning the skills challenge competition that featured fellow community partners that included Poe Elementary and Claremont Academy.

Luke Donald’s Taste of The First Tee Breaks All Records

June 18, 2014 proved to be a wonderful night for golf fans and supporters of The First Tee of Greater Chicago, as the annual fundraiser grabbed 500 attendees and took in over $300,000.

Schools Getting on Board with The First Tee

The First Tee of Greater Chicago is thrilled to announce that the following elementary schools will be offering The First Tee National School Program this school year: Amelia Earhart, St. Ailbe, St. John De La Salle, Immaculate Conception and Caldwell Elementary. The First Tee National School Program trains p.e. teachers to deliver the golf and life skills curriculum to students, K-5, during their regular class time. The chapter works with teachers and schools to provide additional resources, training and playing opportunities for students.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Highlighted at Recent Workshop

The First Tee of Greater Chicago hosted thirty-two (32) The First Tee participants on Saturday, September 13th at Harborside International Golf Center for its inaugural STEM workshop. The First Tee of Greater Chicago alumni participant, Adam Adams joined in the festivities by sharing his experience in the program and graduating from University of Illinois in engineering with the current generation of participants.

Successful First Year of the PGA Jr. League

Partnering with the Chicago Park District and Billy Casper Golf, The First Tee of Greater Chicago formed the PGA Jr. League this past summer. In its first year, the program was able to field four (4) teams to form a formal league. Two of the teams came out of Robert A. Black Golf Couse, one from South Shore Cultural Center and the final team from Sydney Marovitz Golf Course. Nearly half of the participants were current First Tee’rs with the other junior golfers becoming introduced to the organization, coaches and volunteers.

The First Tee of Greater Chicago to Host Golf Marathon

Are you ready to accept the challenge to complete 36 or 72 holes of golf in support of The First Tee of Greater Chicago? The First Tee of Greater Chicago has tapped 10 area private golf clubs to host our inaugural Golf Marathon and Half Marathon to be held during the month of October. Participants will sign up to play either 36 or 72 holes of golf in one day and will reach out to their network of friends and family for their support.
